We are big fans of the Master of Malt which, in addition to selling great whisky, has the Drinks By The Dram program which enables whisky lovers to order small amounts of truly exceptional spirits. This November, Master of Malt has a special whisky release in support of the growing Movember movement focusing on raising money for men’s health, specifically to help fight prostate and testicular cancer. To commemorate and support Movember, Master of Malt has a very limited and special release from Glenfarclas.
Masters of Malt Glenfarclas Movember 2011 Whisky (53% £39.95) is a 9 year old Highland Single Malt Whisky aged in Oloroso sherry hogshead casks. The color of Glenfarclas Movember is dark amber showing the deep effect of the sherry cask. The sherry is also very prevalent on the nose, which is rich and sweet with sherry notes accompanied by vanilla, maple, and walnut with a slightly salty and oaky undertone. The entry is flavorful with lush sherry notes and deep cherry. Things balance out a little in the midpalate with a distinct salty note, a subtle oak note, and light walnut which carry through a nice medium finish.
Masters of Malt Glenfarclas Movember 2011 Whisky isn’t a landmark Scotch Whisky, and the sherry really dominates, but it is something interesting and a unique expression of Glenfarclas. For every bottle sold of Masters of Malt Glenfarclas Movember 2011 Whisky, Masters of Malt and Glenfarclas will donate £10 to Movember (which represents all the profit in this bottling). It’s a great cause and we applaud both Glenfarclas and Masters of Malt for doing something special to support Movember.
